2-12-16 (Week 6)

Today I researched erosion. See my recent post for my research. Next time, I want to gather information from the book we got a couple weeks ago. I had success in finding information. While I was researching, Grace continued to look for a mentor. She found a site to email a multitude of mentors, but not much has been done with it yet.

Erosion (Research from Week 6)

Erosion a process that the Earth uses to loosen rocks and soil and move them from one space to another. Erosion created the landscapes we have today. It is usually millions of years until we see a difference. Contrary to some beliefs, erosion isn't only a process created by the Earth. We, humans, can also cause erosion by farming and mining. Erosion begins with weathering. Weathering is a process where rocks are broken down into smaller pieces. You might think that weathering must be a simple process, because sand gets blown around and gets into your eyes. But wind doesn't do it all. The most powerful force is water. Water (in liquid form) can cause many different kinds of erosion. Streams move tiny rocks every year; the size of the rocks it carries has to do with the strength of the stream. 

Not all rocks are affected the same way during erosion. Some larger rocks are cracked, while other, smaller rocks, are moved downstream. Erosion doesn't only effect rocks, it also effects the beaches. The waves carry sand out into the sea, causing shore sizes to constantly decrease. This causes many problems with plant and animal life. Many efforts have been made in attempt to help fix this problem, but nothing has really made a difference. 

Week 5 (2-5-16)

Today, I got absolutely nothing done due to computer difficulties. We got no reply from our mentor. Next week, I would like to take notes on the book we got last week. Grace was helping another group with their difficulties. Sorry if you're beginning to think this blog is useless. If so, I agree with you.

1/29/16 (Week 4)

This week, I once again continued to look for a mentor. Once again, I was unsuccessful. We had limited time this week because our teacher had to look at our blog and then we had to change some things. After that, Grace and I looked for sources (we found a book, see Sources). We failed write down any information due to lack of time. Next week, I hope to find a mentor and begin to help Grace with research.

Rock Cycle (Research from Week 2)

The rock cycle is centered around magma, which cools into igneous rock, which, if pressure and heat is added to it, it creates metamorphic rock. If the igneous rock erodes and is deposited in riverbeds, sedimentary rock  will form. Sedimentary rock will also form if metamorphic rock erodes and is deposited in riverbeds. Metamorphic and sedimentary rock, when melted, returns to magma and the cycle starts all over again.

Week 3 (1/22/16)

Hello! It's Madi again. This week, I helped Grace set up her blog and started trying to email our mentor. You can see Grace's blog here. We were unsuccessful. Next week, Grace will continue to research the rock cycle, and I will look for a mentor.
